Today The Court Looks into Nazra's Appeal Against The Asset Freeze Order

20 Aug 2019

Abdeen Court looks today at an appeal request against the asset freeze order imposed on Nazra for Feminist Studies since January 2017 by a North Cairo Court, which ordered a freeze on Nazra's moveable and immoveable assets based on a request by the Investigative Judge of Case 173/2011, widely known as "the foreign funding case".

The asset freeze on Nazra has been an unprecedented escalation as Nazra is the only NGO in Case 173/2011 that received such order, and is the first incident in the history of NGOs working on women issues to be targeted through an asset freeze.

Mozn Hassan, the Executive Director of Nazra and the Laureate of the Right Livelihood Award, also known as the Alternative Noble Prize, was also targeted based on Case 173/2011 with a travel ban order in June 2016 and an asset freeze in January 2017.
